Durian

Durian is a large, spiny tropical fruit from Southeast Asia. It is known for its very intense smell and its creamy, pudding-like flesh. The taste is complex: sweet, nutty, vanilla and very rich.

Store unripe at room temperature. Consume ripe fruit quickly or store refrigerated (4–8 °C). Once opened it has a very short shelf life (1-2 days in the fridge).

Open the fruit (be careful: hard shell with spines). Eat pulp directly or use in desserts. Often used in ice cream, smoothies or Asian desserts.

Usually as a whole fruit or vacuum-packed pulp. Weight varies greatly: 1–3 kg per fruit.
